Tea Worker Found Dead in Moulvibazar Tea Garden, Hands and Feet Bound
Moulvibazar, Bangladesh — The body of Ratan Shuvo Kar, a 28-year-old worker at Champaran Tea Garden in Islampur union, Kamalganj upazila, approximately 190 km from Dhaka, was recovered on Wednesday, according to Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Awal and local media reports, including The Daily Star.
Locals discovered the body around 10 a.m. inside the tea garden and immediately alerted authorities. Police who arrived at the scene noted that his hands and feet were tied.
Family Had Been Searching Since Night
Ratan’s family had reportedly been looking for him since the previous night. His elder brother, Laxman Kar, said, “This morning, we were informed that his body was found in the garden. We went there and identified him.We have no idea why this happened.”
A local tea garden worker, speaking anonymously, suggested to The Daily Star that Ratan may have been killed elsewhere and later dumped in the garden. Residents also said the body showed visible injuries and appeared bloodied when found.
Speculation Over Possible Election Link
With national voting scheduled the next day, some locals speculated a potential connection to the upcoming election. Police, however, said there is currently no evidence linking the death to the election.
The body has been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators, OC Abdul Awal added.
