Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently surpassed 100 million followers on Instagram, significantly outpacing US President Donald Trump and becoming the first politician and global leader to achieve this remarkable milestone.

Where Do Other World Leaders Rank?
US President Donald Trump currently occupies the second spot with 43.2 million followers on Instagram. However, Trump largely communicates through his own social media platform, Truth Social, where he shares official statements and responses.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s massive follower base not only places him at the top individually but also exceeds the combined Instagram following of several other prominent global leaders. These include:
-
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto – 15 million followers
-
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – 14.4 million followers
-
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan – 11.6 million followers
-
Argentine President Javier Milei – 6.4 million followers
Modi’s Growing Digital Influence
Highlighting his growing international appeal, PM Modi’s Instagram journey began in 2014 when he created his account. Since then, his follower count has steadily surged, transforming his profile into one of the most dynamic and widely followed digital platforms among world leaders. Over the past decade, his account has evolved into a highly engaging space, featuring updates on governance, diplomacy, cultural moments, and personal insights. According to officials cited by news agency PTI, the platform has consistently attracted global audiences, reinforcing Modi’s status as a leading digital figure on the world stage.
Modi Leads Among Indian Politicians
Within India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains far ahead of other political figures in terms of Instagram following. He is followed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has 16 million followers on the platform. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi trails behind with 12.6 million followers, reflecting a significant gap in digital reach.
Modi: The Most Popular Leader Globally
Beyond social media numbers, surveys also indicate Modi’s strong public approval ratings worldwide. According to data published by Statista, PM Modi recorded a 70 per cent approval rating as of December 2025, placing him at the top among major global leaders.
He was followed by Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi with a 63 per cent approval rating, while Argentina’s President Javier Milei secured 60 per cent support. US President Donald Trump ranked 11th on the list, with an approval rating of 43 per cent.
In a separate assessment by US-based business intelligence firm Morning Consult, PM Modi again secured the leading position with a 67 per cent approval rating. The survey findings were based on data collected between February 2 and February 8, 2026, further underscoring his strong domestic and international standing.
