The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unveiled its second list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections on Monday, making a significant change by moving its senior leader, Manish Sisodia, from Patparganj, which he has represented since 2013, to the Jangpura constituency. Notably, educator Avadh Ojha, who recently joined the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, has been fielded from Patparganj.
Educator Avadh Ojha, a recent entrant to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has been named the candidate for Patparganj, a constituency represented by Manish Sisodia since 2013. Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, delivered decisive wins in 2013 and 2015 but faced a close contest in 2020. He will now contest from Jangpura.
Another prominent name on the list is Rakhi Bidlan, deputy speaker of the Delhi assembly, who will shift from her current Mangolpuri seat to Madipur. Mangolpuri has been allotted to Rakesh Jatav Dharamrakshak.
Jitender Singh Shunty and Parvesh Ratan, both recent additions to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have switched over from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which serves as the main opposition in Delhi with eight assembly seats. The AAP holds a commanding majority with 62 seats.
Delhi assembly elections are anticipated in February. The AAP has governed the capital since December 2013, except for a one-year period between February 2014 and February 2015, when the Union Territory came under President’s rule following the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
