Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced a new health scheme for senior citizens in Delhi ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in February. The scheme, named Sanjeevani Yojana, will provide free treatment to elderly citizens aged 60 and above in both government and private hospitals. Kejriwal emphasized that there will be no upper limit on the cost of treatment. He added that registration for the scheme would begin in a day or two, with AAP workers visiting homes to assist with the registration process and provide a card for benefichttps://dial24news.com/wp-admin/post-new.phpiaries.
The scheme will be implemented once the party comes to power after the elections, Kejriwal stated. This announcement follows a confrontation between the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP over the non-implementation of the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Seven BJP MPs had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, urging the Delhi government to implement the scheme, arguing that citizens in Delhi were facing high out-of-pocket medical expenses due to its non-implementation. In response, the Delhi High Court, on November 27, asked the Delhi government to clarify its position on the matter, emphasizing that steps should be taken to resolve the differences within the administration. Following the court’s comments, Delhi’s new Chief Minister, Atishi, instructed the health department to develop a plan that would integrate the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme without undermining
the existing free healthcare services provided by the Delhi government. Atishi explained that while the exclusions under Ayushman Bharat did not align with Delhi’s system, the government was committed to ensuring that no one loses access to free medical care, and the Ayushman Bharat benefits would be incorporated accordingly.
