India will start their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 4 in Dubai, and will then face Pakistan on October 6 at the same venue.
On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member Indian squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team, with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy.
India made one adjustment to their squad from the Women’s Asia Cup list announced last month. Wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia replaces Uma Chetry, pending fitness clearance. Bhatia was unavailable for the Asia Cup due to a niggle from the T20I series against Bangladesh.
Mandhana is set to open the batting with Shafali Verma, while Dayalan Hemalatha will be another top-order option, having replaced Yastika Bhatia at No. 3 during the Bangladesh series. The strong batting lineup also includes Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh, with Richa as the primary wicketkeeper and Yastika as the backup.
