Power Outage Hits Several Parts of Delhi; Minister Atishi Explains the Cause

The weather department has forecasted a heatwave for many parts of Delhi, with strong surface winds and occasional gusts. On Tuesday, several areas of the national capital experienced power cuts amid the severe heatwave.

Delhi Minister Atishi addressed the issue on social platform X, stating, “There is a power outage in many parts of Delhi from 2:11 pm. This is due to a fire at the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) sub-station in Mandola, UP. Delhi receives 1200 MW of power from the Mandola sub-station, which has led to the outages. The power restoration process has begun, and electricity is gradually returning to different areas.”

Atishi attributed the power cuts to the fire at the PGCIL sub-station in Mandola. She expressed her concerns in a briefing, saying, “I will seek time today from the new power minister of the central government, Manohar Lal Khattar, the chairman of PGCIL, and the chairman of NTPC. There is very limited electricity production in Delhi; most of the electricity comes from different states. It is a matter of great concern that today the national level power infrastructure of our country has failed.”

Atishi emphasized the need for a reliable power supply and the importance of addressing such infrastructure failures to prevent future outages.
