Security Forces Eliminate Two Terrorists in Uri, Baramulla; Operation Underway

According to the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, the encounter took place in the general area of Sarjeevan along the Uri Nala. Approximately two to three terrorists attempted to infiltrate into Indian territory. Security forces swiftly responded, engaging the militants in a heavy exchange of fire. The operation led to the elimination of two terrorists, and a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores were recovered from the site. The Army confirmed that the infiltration bid was successfully thwarted. The encounter is ongoing, with security forces maintaining heightened vigilance in the region.​

Pahalgam Terrorist Attack
The Uri encounter comes just a day after a tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist destination. On April 22, 2025, militants opened fire on a group of tourists, resulting in at least 28 fatalities and over 20 injuries. The attack has been attributed to The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group. The TRF claimed responsibility, citing opposition to demographic changes in the region as their motive .​

The Pahalgam attack has drawn widespread condemnation from both domestic and international leaders. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a state visit to Saudi Arabia at the time, cut short his trip and returned to New Delhi to assess the situation. He held a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval upon arrival. Home Minister Amit Shah also visited Srinagar to convene a meeting with top security officials.​

International leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, have condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India. U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who was visiting India, called it a “devastating terrorist attack” .​

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, security forces have intensified operations across the Kashmir Valley. A joint search and cordon operation involving the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police has been launched to apprehend the perpetrators.
