A remote detonator was reportedly found on the body of Thomas Matthew Crooks<\/a>, the 20-year-old man who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump at his Pennsylvania rally. Crooks opened fire, injuring the former president and two others, and killing firefighter Corey Comperatore before being shot dead by Secret Service snipers.<\/p>\n

An image published by Pittsburgh’s WPXI shows the detonator, a rectangular<\/a> grey device resembling a TV remote control, lying next to Crooks\u2019 mobile phone. According to earlier reports, FBI agents found explosive materials, ammunition, and a bulletproof vest in Crooks’ car. CNN reports that the bombs were linked to the detonator. Crooks\u2019 car was parked close to the grounds where Trump\u2019s rally was held.<\/p>\n

Several netizens reacted to the X post shared by Amy Mek. \u201cThe transmitter was obviously for the bomb he had in his car,\u201d one user wrote. \u201cTo trigger the explosives found in his car?\u201d another questioned. \u201cAs more info comes out, you can say the FBI found nothing on his phone,\u201d one user said, while another wrote, \u201cThey did say he had a detonator for the explosives they found in his van??? Maybe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FBI reportedly went through Thomas Matthew Crooks\u2019 cellphone and laptop, and searched his car and home. More than 100 people have been interviewed. However, Crooks\u2019 motive for planning to kill Trump remains unclear.<\/p>\n

Secret Service Under Fire<\/p>\n

The Secret Service has come under fire for failing to protect the former president. The backlash increased after Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle offered an unconvincing explanation for not positioning guards on the roof from where Crooks opened fire. Cheatle blamed a \u201csloped roof\u201d for not placing a sniper team on the building, stating, \u201cThat building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there\u2019s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn\u2019t want to put.<\/p>\n
