CJP Warns Government: Drop FIRs Against Protesters or Face Fresh Agitations
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday warned the government that it may launch fresh protests if cases registered against student demonstrators are not withdrawn. The party urged the Centre to immediately revoke all FIRs filed against protesters and ensure the release of detained students.
CJP Warns of Fresh Protests Unless Government Drops Cases Against Demonstrators
In a statement, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka appealed to Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh to intervene and prevent any further legal action against those involved in the demonstrations. He emphasized that students should not face criminal proceedings for participating in peaceful protests.
“We demand the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs against protesters, the release of detained students, and an assurance that no additional cases will be registered by Delhi Police, central agencies, or police forces in BJP-ruled states. If these demands are not met, we will have no option but to resume our protest,” Ranka said in a post on X.
The statement comes amid growing tensions between the government and student groups, with CJP reiterating its commitment to continue its agitation until its demands are addressed.
Ranka’s statement came shortly after CJP leader Saurav Das expressed concern over reports alleging that students and other demonstrators were being detained and subjected to legal action in several places.
Prior to calling off its agitation, the Cockroach Janta Party had said that it received assurances from the government that neither protesters nor volunteers participating in demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and across other parts of the country would face police action or criminal charges.
Das stated that the party is continuing to monitor developments closely and expects both the Government of India and BJP/NDA-ruled state governments to respond with urgency, accountability, and in accordance with the commitments made during discussions with protest leaders.
