CCTV footage has emerged in the Chongtham Vikram Singh murder case in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi has questioned the MHA over safety concerns.

A murder case involving Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh has sparked anger across Delhi and Manipur. CCTV footage from the building has emerged as police investigate the fatal assault.

Singh, a 54-year-old guitarist and music teacher, was allegedly attacked after objecting to noise outside his home in Kilokari. He later died from his injuries at a private hospital.

Delhi Police have arrested seven adults and apprehended a 15-year-old boy. Investigators used CCTV footage, technical surveillance and local intelligence to identify those allegedly involved.

CCTV footage reportedly captures the aftermath of the assault inside the building. It shows Singh being carried down the staircase while several alleged attackers are seen emerging from the stairs.

Police have registered a murder case under Sections 103(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is continuing.

How the fatal assault unfolded

The incident reportedly began around 11:30 pm on Sunday. Singh had gone downstairs after objecting to noise and commotion outside his residence.

According to reports, the confrontation turned violent. Singh was allegedly chased into the building and attacked in the corridor before the group fled.

His son later took him to a hospital in Okhla. Singh died during treatment at around 7 am on Monday, according to reports.

Rahul Gandhi questions MHA

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has condemned the killing and raised questions about the safety of people from the Northeast in Delhi.

Gandhi asked what the Union Home Ministry was doing while raising concerns over the safety of Northeastern families living in the capital.

His remarks have added a political dimension to case. The incident has also renewed concerns about safety of people from Manipur and other northeastern states in Delhi.

Calls for swift justice grow

The killing has triggered protests and demands for a quick investigation. Nearly 100 people from Northeast joined a candlelight march in Kilokari on Monday.

Former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has also urged Delhi Police to conduct a thorough investigation. He called for swift action and justice for the musician.

The case has also drawn attention from Manipur’s political and civil society groups.

Who was Chongtham Vikram Singh?

Singh was a well-known guitarist from Manipur who had lived and worked in Delhi for years. He worked as a private music teacher and remained connected to the music community.

He was also associated with Manipur’s rock music scene. The Indian Express reported that he had played with bands including Phoenix, Ultra Vires and Eastern Dark.

His death has therefore been mourned not only as a crime case but also as a loss to Manipur’s music community.
