Ram Mandir Donation Theft: Supreme Court Seeks UP SIT Report, Issues Notice to Trust

Ram Mandir Donation Theft case has taken a significant legal turn after the Supreme Court sought a status report from the Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) and issued a notice to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The apex court was hearing a petition related to allegations concerning the alleged theft or misappropriation of donation funds collected for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

The court directed the SIT to submit details of the investigation carried out so far and asked the Trust to respond to the allegations raised in the petition. The matter will be taken up again after the responses are filed.

What Is the Ram Mandir Donation Theft Case?

The case stems from allegations that donation funds collected for the Ram Mandir were allegedly stolen or misappropriated.

A petition before the Supreme Court sought judicial intervention, requesting oversight of the investigation and action against those found responsible if any wrongdoing is established. The allegations are under investigation, and no final judicial findings have been made.

Supreme Court’s Directions

During the hearing, the Supreme Court sought a detailed status report from the Uttar Pradesh SIT.

The bench also issued a formal notice to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, asking it to file its response to the issues raised in the petition. The court clarified that it would examine the investigation and the replies before deciding the next course of action.

The observations made during the hearing do not amount to a finding on the merits of the allegations.

Role of the UP SIT

The Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a Special Investigation Team to examine the allegations surrounding the donation funds.

The SIT is expected to place before the court details regarding:

  • Progress of the investigation.
  • Evidence collected so far.
  • Statements recorded during the probe.
  • Any action already taken.
  • Future course of investigation.

The Supreme Court’s direction aims to obtain a clear picture of the status of the inquiry.

Trust Asked to Respond

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has been asked to file its response before the Supreme Court.

The Trust will have an opportunity to present its position regarding the allegations and place relevant facts before the court. At this stage, the issuance of notice is a procedural step and should not be interpreted as a conclusion regarding liability.

Why the Case Matters

The Ram Mandir project has received donations from devotees across India and abroad.

As a result, any allegation concerning the handling of donation funds attracts significant public attention. The Supreme Court’s monitoring of the matter is expected to ensure that the legal process proceeds transparently and in accordance with the law.

What Happens Next?

The UP SIT will submit its status report, while the Trust is expected to file its response within the time granted by the court.

After reviewing these submissions, the Supreme Court will decide the next stage of the proceedings. Depending on the material placed before it, the court may issue further directions regarding the investigation.
